As we come into week two of lockdown I am starting to drive myself a bit crazy. I took it upon myself to make the most of this extra time and try and learn something new each day to help take my mind off of our new reality. As our cupboard gets low I thought to myself I'm sure I can make some household staples from scratch. I have never made bread before and decided I would give it a try. I think now is the best time to try new things even if we fail, because whos going to see us if we do!
It's hard being distant from friends and family members that we love but we have to do our best to stay positive and make the most out of the situation that is out of our control. For anyone who is bored at home and is getting a bit down try this recipe or any new recipe you find to help pick yourself back up and carry on.
This recipe has seven ingredients and takes no time at all, let's get started!
Ingredients:
1 Tablespoon of Active Dry Yeast.
3 1/2 - 4 1/2 cups of flour
1 1/2 cups of warm water.
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
Oil
Herbs of choice.
Method
Mix the water, sugar, salt, and yeast in a bowl. Let it sit in a warm space for 20 mins or until there is some bubbling foam on top. This can vary in time so keep an eye on it. make sure to preheat your oven at this stage as well.
Add the flour bit by bit, keep kneading in the flour until it is no longer sticking to your hands and has formed a nice dough texture.
Roll out your dough into a loaf shape cover with a towel and leave it to sit in a warm place for an hour or longer. How long it will take varies, as long as it rises a little bit you are good to go.
Bake for 30-40 mins. Again I feel like it varies how long it takes mine took a bit longer than 40 mins to get a nice toasted colour ontop.
