The Glow Up Series

Updated: Jul 19, 2019

I'm embarking on a new healthier lifestyle to become my best self. Come with me as I post updates about my struggles and accomplishments with new diet habits, an exercising regime and mindfulness practices.

Do you ever look in the mirror and see a stranger staring back at you? An unhappy face that doesn't fit the bubbly person that's inside. I've never been able to completely love myself from head to toe which is a sad reality to many. There are days when I feel good in an outfit and other days where I feel gross and frumpy, our minds are playing tricks on us. I want to take you along with me as I begin a new journey pushing myself to try new exercises, eating habits and mindfulness activities.

Together we can start creating the person we have always wanted to be. No longer will we be too anxious to face our fears. Each and everyone of us deserve to be living our best life in a body we love, which is hard to do when our mind is telling us we are not pretty enough, skinny enough or confident enough. I don't want to just work on my outside appearance I want to work on my inside as well. Our minds need as much attention as our bodies. Anyone can take action to change their life no matter what stage they are at physically. I am also no expert in health and fitness, just a 22 year old girl wanting to share the ups and the downs of my transformation journey . Here is an introduction to what I plan on doing for the next few months and how the first three weeks of my journey is going so far.

My Goals: These are some of my goals heading forward.

1) Meditate more. (work on mental health, get rid of anxiety and anxious feelings)

2) Eat healthy (Track calories, try new recipes, find a food plan that works for me)

3) Do things that scare me and make me uncomfortable (YOU WILL BE OK)

4) Be consistent with exercise (train harder, more cardio, try a group class)

-Set yourself some goals that you can visualize and follow at your own pace.

Where i'm at so far:

Fitness: In the beginning of this year I sighed up to a gym and started weightlifting. At first it was a huge challenge I was barely lifting any weights and felt intimidated by the strong men and women around me. Now I am squatting 55kg for four sets of 10 reps. Although I can't physically see any changes I am feeling stronger. When I started I wasn't consistent so my new plan is to sweat it out at the gym for at least 4-5 days a week as well as having the correct diet to match the exercise plan. I started to enjoy weight lifting because it wasn't as tiring as high intensity fitness like cardio, however cardio is important to burn fat on top of those muscles. I hate cardio or at least strongly despise it. Running has never been something that inspires me however HIIT (High intensity interval training) workouts are a lot more enjoyable for me. I need to increase my cardio and find something that makes me sweat that i also enjoy. I want to push myself to join a cardio based fitness class once or twice a week so i am working new parts of my body and also meeting new people with similar interests.

Diet: Diet has been one of the hardest challenges so far which surprised me as I thought the exercise would be. I have watched so many YouTube videos and read so many articles online all saying different things about food that can help loose weight and gain muscle. Some say intermittent fasting is effective and others are saying a raw food diet is the way to go, neither of which get me excited to eat. A big thing I want to implement into my life is less of a 'diet' and more a healthier way of life. When I eat better I definitely feel better,

which is something I need to remind myself everyday when I am surrounded by temptations. I am a vegetarian and when I first started cutting out meat from my diet I noticed that I ate more carbs. I don't think carbs are bad, I think I just need to educate myself about healthy carbs and how much I should be having. I have started tracking my calories on 'My Fitness Pal', this just helps me watch what I'm eating and keep track of it day to day. My biggest goal with food is to not deprive myself if i'm hungry, I have to make sure i'm eating healthy foods that will fuel me rather than eating processed junk. I want to start making my own salad dressing from scratch as well as healthy snacks, stay tuned to my blog I hope to post new exciting recipes along my journey.

Mind: If your anything like me then your mind is your biggest enemy. My mind feeds me with unhealthy words that constantly make me feel down. A body transformation journey is hard work and is only made harder if we have a little red devil on our shoulders telling us we look 'fat' or 'it's not working'. This process will be long and take a lot of work and I understand that I won't see progress straight away, which will be made harder if my mind is bullying me along the way. I want to introduce daily mindful meditation so I can learn to be in the present moment. I struggle to sleep because my mind and my anxiety wont shut up, I want to do some more research on how I can improve my mind and get it to calm down. Daily affirmations can also help the mind connect with the body sending positive thoughts rather than negative ones.

I will post regular chatty updates on this blog. Just remember you are unique and unlike anyone else so how you eat and how you train will be different, what one person does may not work for you so it is a learning curve finding what works for you. There is no perfect way to become the best version of yourself, you can only try new things and see where it gets you. Lets do this together because we all deserve to love ourselves! Leave a comment on what you want to work on, lets get a conversation going. Stay tuned for updates xx
